Masjid In Oxford... Who Knew?

Oxford, Miss. may seem like the typical southern town, including a church on nearly every street corner, plenty of options for fried food, and a downtown that doesn't amount to much but is the livelihood of the community.
But, how many Oxford residents are aware that the largest mosque (will be referred to as 'masjid') in the state is right in their backyards?
The Oxford Muslim Society, along with the help of the Muslim Student Society and Pluralism Project built Oxford's masjid in 1999 off of McElroy road, near the OPC soccer fields, an area familiar to many Oxonians.
According to the Pluralism Project, the Oxford area is home to over 400 Muslims, and the masjid serves around 150 people in the area.  The masjid offers prayer services as well as Urdu and Arabic language classes, and recognizes all major Muslim festivals.  Inside, a prayer hall, several classrooms, and a washing room for doing ablutions before worship can all be found.
